Suicide Squad Director Shows Experimental Design For Jared Leto Joker
David Ayer shared a Jared Leto Joker image from his Suicide Squad cut. This is different than Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
Suicide Squad director David Ayer shared an exclusive look at Jared Leto’s Joker. Leto’s Joker was featured in Suicide Squad as well as Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Leto’s Joker saw many design options that were both comical and experimental. There were many more fashion options than audiences had seen before.
The Suicide Squad director continues to fight for the true version of the film. Ayer claims that Suicide Squad was reworked using the image of Deadpool in order to reflect a lighter tone. This is similar to what happened with the theatrical version of Justice League.

Ayer posted a new image on Twitter of Leto’s Joker with the caption “experiments” from a costume fitting. This suit is a modern adaptation of Leto’s Joker as an anarchist, and eccentric mobster and is inspired by modern-day aesthetics such as the teeth grill and controversial face tattoos. Ayer stated, “Joker killed Robin. Batman smashes out his teeth and locks him up in Arkham Asylum. Joker would also have done the “damaged” tattoo to send Batman a message saying, “You’ve damaged my face.” I was so beautiful before you destroyed my face.” Joker, Zack Snyder’s Justice League stated that he would have included “Joker telling Robin’s story” in Justice League Part 2. Snyder also suggested that Snyder could include a flashback sequence in which Joker is seen in his classic suit and classic design.
One Twitter user responded to Ayer’s Joker photo, saying that they were happy his version of the character didn’t get anywhere. Ayer responded to the angry Twitter user by saying, “The New 52” Court of Owls Batman inspired some of the design choices. This is evident in Joker’s black hairstyle and suit that parallel Batman Endgame Vol 7, as well as the white tuxedo worn in the car chase sequence that was inspired by The Dark Knight Returns.

Ayer has spoken out before about his depiction. Ayer stated that Jared was “quite mistreated” and that “no one had seen his performance.” It was taken out of the movie.” Ayer stated previously that the Suicide Squad teaser trailer was aligned with the original vision and that the Joker reveal is one of many reshoots that weren’t included in the theatrical cut. Ayer continues to post photos of Leto’s Joker in Suicide Squad to further debate the director’s intentions.
Ayer restored the villain to pale white skin following Heath Ledger’s departure. However, fans are more upset about the execution than the intention behind it. Fans may be tempted to forget about their pitchforks and instead focus their energy on WB by agitating for the Ayer Cut until Leto’s true Joker performance can be seen.
Suicide Squad is now available on HBO Max.
